Ready to learn more?  Check out these fantastic keynote topics!!!  Our keynote speakers are for Thursday, Dr. Emily Mofield, assistant professor at Lipscomb University teaching courses in Gifted Education and Advanced Academics Program. Our Friday keynote speaker is Dr. Brian Housand, the coordinator of the Academically or Intellectually Gifted program at University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Emily Mofield - Keynote: “Reimagining Possibilities: Transforming Potential into Realized Talent” What is the role of gifted education, how has it changed, and where are we going? The past few years have brought new challenges, but also new opportunities to reimagine possibilities. This keynote will offer reflection on rigor, resilience, and our roles in gifted education. Walk away with concrete strategies to stretch student thinking to the next level and expand your sphere of influence in catalyzing change.

Breakout 1: “Vertical Differentiation: Strategies to Stretch Student Thinking”How do we guide students to “dig deeper” beyond surface-level learning? This session highlights the use of “stretch prompts” to stimulate and challenge gifted students in their learning. These strategies can be used as “vertical differentiation” to dial up instruction, assignments, and tasks to ignite inquiry and deeper learning. Learn to apply these ideas with concrete examples applied across various content areas and grade levels.

Breakout 2: “Collaboration and Coaching in Gifted Education: Keys for Success”

Collaborative teaching practices support regular education teachers in learning skills and strategies to differentiate for gifted students. Learn the tools and “how-to” steps for facilitating and sustaining collaborative teaching and instructional coaching in ways that build capacity for teachers to challenge and support gifted students all day every day.

Brian Housand - Keynote“Taylor Swift, A Supermarket, & the Saguaro Cactus OR 13 Lessons about Talent Development”

Yes, you read that right! Taylor Swift, a Supermarket, and the Saguaro Cactus! At first glance, this may seem like a random collection of nouns in a game of Mad Libs, but this person, place, and thing have a great deal to teach us about developing talent in our gifted learners. We will analyze the unique characteristics of each and discover some practical strategies to incorporate in your learning environment.

Breakout:  Welcoming Our Robot Overlords: ChatGPT, Midjourney, and the Ever Evolving World of AI

Gifted Education has long championed creative productivity and critical thinking, but what happens when our devices begin to think and create on their own? Rather than shying away from AI, let’s examine how to boldly embrace its power and potential to leverage new possibilities and pathways with this collection of lessons incorporating ethical decision making, collaboration, design, and knowledge construction.
