Keynote Speakers

We are thrilled to welcome an exceptional lineup of keynote speakers for this year’s Alabama Association for Gifted Children (AAGC) Conference! These leaders in gifted education, innovation, and advocacy will inspire and challenge us as we work to support gifted learners.

Tarek C. Grantham, Ph.D. Professor of Educational Psychology, University of Georgia will present " Engaging the Equity Work for Underserved Advanced Learners to Close Excellence Gaps: Determination Beyond Distortions and Distractions"

Description: Distortions can disrupt progress in equity for advanced learners. Equity opponents argue that pursuing equity poisons excellence: you cannot have one without compromising the other. However, many advocates have effectively diffused this false dichotomy. Today, we must be focused and organized (“focunized”) to continue the work of closing excellence gaps, particularly among advanced learners from underrepresented Black and Brown families and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In this session, you will be challenged to embrace the clarion call to be bolder, avoid distractions, and leverage historically significant, culturally relevant policies and practices to promote excellence in inclusive, equitable ways.

Stephanie Higgs, Little Miss Gifted, will present "Coloring Outside the Lines: The Magic is in the Mess!"

Description: Let’s shake things up and make learning unforgettable! Join Little Miss Gifted, Stephanie Higgs, for a hands-on, action-packed session where you’ll discover bite-sized, super-simple ways to sprinkle creativity into your gifted lessons. Whether you’re looking for warm-ups, brain breaks, or ways to energize your teaching with arts integration, this session is bursting with ideas you can’t wait to try with your learners! These creativity-infused strategies are research-based, teacher-tested, student-approved, and sure to be a hit. Get ready to spark, create, and shine as you learn to level up gifted lessons with FUN!

We are excited to announce the Call for Proposals!

We can't wait to see you in Mobile, Alabama, where we’ll be hosting three jam-packed days of learning, networking, and collaborating to support gifted learners.
